Intro to Non-cash Tip and Gratuity Payouts
Below is a list of items regarding non-cash tip and gratuity payouts:
- Non-cash Tip and Gratuity amounts are based on the amount of finalized tips.
- Only managers/employees with the Cash Management permission enabled can perform non-cash tip and gratuity payouts.
Non-cash Tip Payouts
The are two methods for paying out non-cash tips, and the method for which you pay them out depends on whether or not you have the Tracking for Employee Tip Payouts setting enabled on your account. If this setting is disabled (default), you can pay out non-cash tips using the Cash Management Function feature in the Register or when closing the drawer.
Pay Out Non-cash Tips (Standard Method)
Via the Cash Management Function
Managers can utilize the Cash Management function at any time to pay out employees for tips and gratuities collected.
- Open the left-side flyout menu by tapping the hamburger menu in the top-left corner of the screen
- Tap Cash Management
- In the Cash Management window, tap Tip Payout to pay out employees for non-cash tips collected, or tap Gratuity Payout to pay out employees for gratuity collected.
- Enter the tip or gratuity payout amount using the numeric pin pad. Note that the system displays the total amount of remaining tips or gratuity that has not been paid out to ensure that the total amount paid out does not exceed the amount collected.
- Tap Next and remove the specified amount from the drawer.
When Closing the Drawer
The system allows you also to perform tip and gratuity payouts when closing the drawer.
- Start closing the drawer – Open the left-side flyout menu (hamburger icon in the top-left corner of the screen) and tap Close Drawer.
- The cash summary table on the left displays all cash activities, including tip and gratuity payouts (the rows preceding the "Expected Cash in Drawer" row). The amount of non-cash tips and gratuity that can be paid out is listed in the parenthesis next to the title. For example, if you collected $100.00 in non-cash tips, the system would display it as follows:
Non-cash tip payouts (Remaining: $100.00) - Tap the red-underlined text to display the numeric pin pad and enter the payout amount. You can pay out non-cash tips and gratuities up to the total amount collected as displayed above the pin pad.
- Enter the amount and tap Next.
Pay Out Non-cash Tips (Tracking for Employee Tip Payouts)
Some managers want to track each employee's non-cash tip and gratuity payouts and the amount distributed to each. You must contact your Account Representative to enable this setting on your account. With the Tracking for Employee Tip Payouts enabled, the Tip Payout screen displays each employee and their sales, tips collected, and tips paid out.
To pay out employees using the Tip Payout screen:
- Open the left-side flyout menu by tapping the hamburger menu in the top-left corner of the screen
- Tap Cash Management
- In the Cash Management window, tap Tip Payout to pay out employees for non-cash tips collected.
- In the Tip Payout screen, locate the employee and tap Payout.
- In the Employee Tip Payout window, enter the tip amount using the numeric pin pad. Note that the system displays the total amount of tips collected for that employee and the total remaining amount (for all employees) that can still be paid out above the keypad to ensure that all tips have been paid out.
- Tap Payout from Drawer and remove the specified amount from the drawer.
Gratuity Payouts
Unlike non-cash tip payouts, there is no option to enable Tracking for Employee Payouts. Gratuity payouts can be done via the Cash Management function or when closing the drawer. The workflow for gratuity payouts is the same as the standard method for non-cash tip payouts.
